Day of architecture and urban planning for underground spaces
On 16 november
Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine
7 avenue Albert De Mun 75016 Paris
Shaping the future
Faced with the property pressure brought on by the strong urban sprawl and necessity to have more energy-friendly cities, underground spaces have an enormous potential to air cities out. There are new spaces for infrastructures, services and networks underground, without forgetting economic, cultural or entertaining activities.
This morning’s session “The underground architectural object to urban planning between the ground and the
underground” will present concrete examples of work carried out, in France and throughout the world, allowing
you to appreciate the investment of underground spaces in a systemic multi-levelled approach. In France, stakeholders in urban planning and the economy will present their research and experiments carried out with the National Project “10D-City of Ideas” to invent or revamp regulatory frameworks and practices, and to respond, with the underground, to challenges in urban planning.
In the afternoon session “Urban strategies, a comparison between Greater Paris and Singapore,” we will reflect on what tomorrow’s cities will be, considering Singapore’s urban sprawl, a highly-populated city with development constraints because of its location and the planning for Greater Paris, with its historical centres which have filled its underground for centuries.
A round-table discussion, chaired by urban leaders in both cities, will allow us to see the planning required in the underground spaces to develop tomorrow’s cities.
A famous architect will speak at the end of the day, to bring in an indispensable artistic point of view with underground structures and their environmental integration.
The definitive program will be sent out in September 2017.
